What is Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy?
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is platelet-enriched blood plasma. Platelets for PRP are made from a patient’s own blood, similar to a patient donating his blood before a surgical procedure.
The Process
- Blood is withdrawn from the patient
- Blood is placed in a centrifuge
- The centrifuge process concentrats the red and white blood cells and platelets in different levels. Blood plasma that is rich in platelets is taken out and readied for the application process.
- An anesthetic cream is applied to the areas to be treated then the platelets are injected using a fine needle providing minimal discomfort.
